How the Particle Physics Masterclasses began

As many as 10,000 school students in 37 countries participate each year in the Particle Physics Masterclasses, which are now in their 10th year at the international level. In this CERN Courier article, Roger Barlow, one of the 'inventors’ of the concept, recalls the ideas that motivated the origin of the masterclasses in the UK, back in 1996.
